Glossary of Important Terms(Class XI & XII)

 

Set

A well defined collection of distinct objects  is called a Set.

 

Relation-

A sub set of A X B is called a relation from the non-empty set  A to the non empty set B.

 

Function-

Let A and B be two non empty sets. A relation from set A to set B is called a function if each element of A has exactly one image under the relation.

                 

Trigonometry

It is that branch of mathematics which deals with the measurement of sides and angles of triangles.

 

Circular System-

The circular measure of an angle is the number of radians it 

contains, where one radian is defined as the angle subtended at the centre  of a circle by an arc whose length is equal to the radius.

 

Permutations-

The arrangement of a number of things taking some or all of them at a time are called Permutations.

 

Combinations-

The selections(groups) of a number of things taking some or all of them at a time are called Combinations.

 

Sequence-

A succession of numbers formed according to a certain rule and arranged in a definite order is called a sequence.

 

Progression-

A sequence is said to be a progression if its terms numerically increases (respectively decreases.)

 

Circle-   

A circle is the locus of a point which moves so that its distance from a  point is constant.

 

Matrix-

An ordered collection of m n numbered, m, n are Natural number in the form of horizontal lines and  n vertical lines is called an m x n matrix.

 

Vectors-

Quantities which have both magnitude and direction and can be added by triangle law are called Vectors.

 

Programming-

Programming means systematic planning or decision making.

 

Simple Event-

Every outcome of a random experiment is an elementary event or 

simple event.
